We featured September’s Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Race last month. Perhaps the pictures gave you an idea of the visuals, but they hardly provided information on the nitty-gritty, such as how the cars were equipped and their elapsed times. A total of 117 muscle cars qualified and raced (an additional nine dropped out due to mechanical issues), and now you can see how they all ran.

It is possible you have seen Ian Ashton’s videos on Facebook, but they lack context, so let’s establish some: You could be watching qualifying runs or the official race. None of the videos should be a cause célèbre for any allegiant brand-booster for several possible reasons. To wit:

• Yes, everybody knows that you, random dude, can drive faster than any driver in the videos.
• Not every run is a particular vehicle’s peak run.
• Any two cars can race each other in qualifying, so there’s no sense in celebrating a win for your tribe.
• Race pairings are based on qualifying ETs, so why celebrate your favorite brand’s win when there’s likely a Brand X that’s running faster?

These are the absurdities that come with social media, which misses the point of the whole event: it’s all about having fun, meeting fellow enthusiasts, and competing against yourself. Hopefully, these race results show what different combinations are capable of based on a specific set of rules. For those who choose to maximize their vehicles, you may note that they often run faster than similar modified vehicles — therein is the beauty of the Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Race.

If your interest is piqued and you want to bring your car to the 2027 event (or just attend as a spectator), be sure to pencil in the dates of September 10-11. For more information, visit the Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Race website.
